The most popular,
non-lethal, personal defense product on the market today is the self
defense spray (also known as pepper spray). The primary chemical
compound used in self defense spray today is OC (Oleoresin Capsicum)
which is a natural chemical derived from hot pepper plants. OC
pepper is an inflammatory agent which causes two reactions when an
individual is sprayed with this type of pepper spray.
First, the
person's eyes clamp shut, hard. If the person manages to open
their eyes, they are unable to see well because the OC pepper dilates
the capillaries of the eyes and causes temporary blindness.
Second, an immediate fit of uncontrollable coughing doubles the person
over and often sends them to their knees. The OC pepper causes an
instant inflammation of breathing tissues making breathing difficult.
The condition is temporary but very debilitating. OC pepper has
the affect of putting up a "brick wall" between the assailant and victim
even if they are on drugs, drunk or psychotic.

Pepper Shot
Pepper Sprays |
Pepper Shot is a 10% pepper spray rated at 2 million scoville heat units
and made with a very fine grain that is more effective than the coarser
grains of most other pepper sprays. In addition to causing an attacker
pain, Pepper Shot pepper spray swells the mucous membranes, which makes
breathing difficult, and swells the veins in the eyes, causing the eyes
to close. These effects last up to 45 minutes and cause no permanent
damage. All key chain sprays have quick-key releases. All pepper sprays,
except for the pen (PS-3), have locking actuators. |

Wildfire
Pepper Sprays |
WildFire pepper spray is an inflammatory agent. It will induce coughing,
choking and nausea, as well as dilating the eye capillaries resulting in
temporary blindness. The mucous membranes will swell to prevent all but
life support breathing causing the assailant to be temporarily
incapacitated. A one second burst of WildFire pepper spray will stop an
attacker for up to 45 minutes without causing permanent damage. |
